Resource sourcing

Solutions must be primarily developed during the hackathon period. Teams may use open-source libraries, frameworks, templates, or open-source code, however the core idea, implementation, and functionality must be original. If an application builds upon open-source code, teams must clearly state what was created or significantly improved during the hackathon.

Tools and Technologies

No required APIs , SDKs, or datasets for this competition.Participants are free to use any tools, frameworks, or data sources that best support their solution, including open datasets related to sustainability.

However, Teams must clearly disclose any external APIs , libraries, or datasets used in their application on their ReadMe page. Let's give credit when its due.

Inspiration

·      Clean Water & Sanitation
  1. TaKaDu: Cloud “event management” for water networks: detects leaks/pressure/quality anomalies from sensor + meter data and helps utilities prioritize fixes.
  2.  Badger Meter (BEACON) : Smart metering + SaaS analytics: interval meter data for exception management, leak alerts, and utility/customer visibility. What the company does: cloud analytics on interval meter data with alerts/exception management.
  3. 120Water: manages water quality programs (sampling, inventories like lead service lines, reporting, public transparency).
  4.   Kando: Wastewater intelligence: detects abnormal pollution events, traces likely sources, and helps utilities respond faster

·       Clean Energy
  1. Kraken (Octopus Energy) : Utility operating platform using advanced data/ML. Services Includes manages customer service, billing, and grid balancing for Octopus Energy and other international energy firms.
  2. Sense : Home energy app/monitoring that gives real-time usage visibility and insights to help people lower bills and carbon footprint.
  3. Nest Renew (Google Nest): Helps households shift HVAC usage to cleaner/cheaper times (“Energy Shift”) and can reduce demand during peaks(May not be beginner friendly!)

·       Responsible Consumption & Production
  1. Greyparrot  “Waste intelligence” platform: camera + AI analytics that measures what flows through recovery facilities and reports performance.
  2. Too Good To Go: Surplus food marketplace that redirects unsold food to consumers instead of landfill.
  3. Back Market:  Refurbished electronics marketplace focused on extending device life and reducing e-waste/throwaway culture.
